Helsinki Committee on hate speech

The murder of Mayor Paweł Adamowicz is a challenge for Polish democracy and a proof that the political conflict has gone beyond peaceful borders and became a threat to the Polish people.

The Helsinki Committee has repeatedly emphasized the threat posed by hate speech and once again calls on competent state authorities to consistently prosecute hate speech. The Committee also urges educational authorities and public media to engage in anti-hate speech education and calls on participants in public life to show self-restraint while being publicly involved in the political struggle so as to observe the principles of fair play, mutual respect for personal rights and shared responsibility for the word.

The Helsinki Committee’s statement can be read here.
