HFHR lawyer ranks first in Rising Stars – Leaders of Tomorrow competition

We are happy to announce that Ms Katarzyna Wiśniewska, an advocate working with the HFHR was named the winner of Rising Stars – Leaders of Tomorrow, the contest for young lawyers organised by Wolters Kluwer and Dziennik Gazeta Prawna. The jury panel recognised Ms Wiśniewska’s commitment, determination and empathy for the people turning to the HFHR for help. In the justification to their decision, jurors noted that Katarzyna Wiśniewska decided to learn the sign language because she wanted to provide legal aid to deaf-and-dumb clients.

As the coordinator of the HFHR’s Strategic Litigation Programme, Ms Wiśniewska has been involved in many cases litigated in courts of the general jurisdiction, the Constitutional Tribunal or the ECtHR. Previously, she was in charge of the monitoring of the prison health care system and the Polish juvenile justice system. Now, apart from coordinating the Strategic Litigation Programme, Ms Wiśniewska explores the application of pre-trial detention in selected EU Member States.

“We are so happy about Kasia’s award”, says Danuta Przywara, President of the HFHR. “When I watch her at work, I can see that she cares not only about winning a case, but also wants to improve human rights protection standards. We are delighted that her commitment has been recognised”, Ms Przywara adds.

The publishing house Wolters Kluwer and the daily legal newspaper Gazeta Prawna organised the “Rising Stars – Leaders of Tomorrow” contest for the fourth time. The idea behind the event is to acknowledge and praise young legal talents who use their knowledge, social sensitiveness and entrepreneurial skills to uphold the highest professional standards.
