HFHR on National Forum of Polish Non-Governmental Organisations’ Initiatives

On 8 and 9 September, Warsaw will host the National Forum of Polish Non-Governmental Organisations’ Initiatives, a recurrent triennial initiative attended by representatives of non-governmental organisations, local government units, public administration and the business. Each Forum’s leading event is a conference devoted to the collaboration within the non-governmental sector and relations between NGOs and external partners. Thematic panels

The Forum’s agenda also includes debates held during plenary sessions as well as about a dozen parallel discussion panels focusing on different thematic areas. The HFHR organises a discussion on the prospects of maintaining infrastructure for refugee and migrant aid in the absence of state-funded support. The event will take place on 9 September, from 11.10 to 12.30, in room 113 at the Old Building of the Library of the University of Warsaw, ul. Krakowskie Przedmieście 26/28.

After the European Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (FAMI) suspended its co-financing in mid-2015, many civil society organisations started experiencing financial and manpower difficulties, with some of them being forced to temporarily cease operations. We would like to use the discussion as an opportunity to brainstorm ideas for the best utilisation of NGO potential and experience to improve cooperation and fill the emerging vacuum in the system of legal and integration assistance to migrants.

On 9 September a non-governmental village will emerge at a section of historic Krakowskie Przedmieście between the intersections with Królewska and Ossolińskich streets. Along the “Values Avenue” leading along both sides of this landmark Warsaw street, representatives of more than 70 civil society projects and organisations will educate members of the public about their work, conduct games and workshops.
