Lecture pro memoria Marek Nowicki

The Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights and Open Society Foundations have the  pleasure to announce the next of the series of Marek Nowicki memorial lectures.

This year’s lecture ‘Towards the universal abolition of the death penalty’ will be given by Prof. Robert Badinter, lawyer, lecturer at the Paris Sorbonne University, advocate of abolishing the death penalty. In 1981 he succeeded in abolishing the death penalty in France.

The lecture will commence at 5.30 p.m. at the University of Warsaw, ul. Krakowskie Przedmieście 26/28, in Kazimierzowski Palace, Brudziński lecture hall. It will be held in French, with simultaneous interpretation into Polish. The lecture has the honorary patronage of the Rector of the University of Warsaw and the Dean of the University’s Law and Administration Department.

The lectures in memory of Marek Nowicki, the first and long-sitting President of the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights, have been held since 2004.’Lecturers are distinguished international human rights experts. We try to continue the work of Marek, an excellent teacher and human rights advocate, by inviting to these meetings both academics and practitioners’, says Danuta Przywara, President of the HFHR.
