New CoE Human Rights Commissioner

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe has elected Dunja Mijatović for the post of the Human Rights Commissioner of the Council of Europe. Ms Mijatović will replace Nils Muiznieks, whose term concluded in April 2018.

“We were delighted to hear of your election to the post of the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights. In this difficult time for the European human rights protection system accompanied by the deep crisis of democracy that affects several European countries, your election gloats with enthusiasm”, HFHR President Danuta Przywara wrote in a congratulations letter.

The mandate of the Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights includes the promotion of human rights, supporting ombudsmen and human rights advocates in Council of Europe’s member states and monitoring the law from the human rights perspective.
