Results of the third edition of the Best Human Rights MA Thesis contest

The winners of third edition of the Best Human Rights MA thesis contest organised by the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights have been announced. The board of the contest, chaired by Professor Ewa Łętowska, decided to grant three awards and one special prize.

The 17 theses submitted encompassed knowledge areas such as law, political science, philosophy, management, European studies, nursing and Oriental studies. The authors represented six different Polish universities. The contest was organised as part of the grant from the Trust for Civil Society in Central and Eastern Europe.

The best MA thesis entitled “Limited access to medication as a (side?) effect of patent protection” was written by Łukasz Lasek, graduate of Warsaw University’s Faculty of Law and Administration. The laureate will receive a monthly scholarship at a university abroad, followed by a monthly paid work placement. Moreover, his thesis will be published.

The contest’s second place award was granted to Robert Rybski for his MA thesis entitled “The constitutional status of incapacitated persons”. The thesis was supervised by Professor Marek Zubik at the Faculty of Law and Administration of Warsaw University.

The third laureate was Marta Aleksandrowicz, the author of the thesis entitled “Violation of the image of publicly known persons in advertisements”. This thesis was also written at Warsaw University’s Faculty of Law and Administration and supervised by Professor Mirosław Wyrzykowski.

Second and third place winners will be offered monthly paid work placements as well as an opportunity to publish their theses as e-books on HFHR’s website.

Apart from the three winners, the board also awarded a special prize for the thesis entitled “International standard setting with regard to the right to water”, by Maria Napiontek from Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. The thesis was written in English and supervised by Professor Zdzisław Kędzia. This thesis will also be published as an e-book.

The award ceremony with speeches of the winners is planned for end of May/beginning of June 2013.
