Coalition for criminal law: criminal lawmaking needs reforms

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the entry into force the trio of the currently applicable criminal codes: the Criminal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure and Criminal Enforcement Code.
This anniversary and the need for a deeper reflection on the current and proposed legislative changes led to the creation of the Coalition for Criminal Law, which is made of non-governmental organisations and associations that have been long monitoring the lawmaking process and actively acting in the area of human rights.
This initiative was based on the belief that there is a need for a permanent forum that would bring together representatives of many different circles and professions who would be able to engage in an evidence-based, unbiased and non-partisan discussion about problems of the broad category of repression law and penal policy, the purpose of which would be to advance interests of the public.
The idea of the Coalition originated from the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights, and the Coalition members include the Kraków Institute of Criminal Law, Amnesty International Association, Association for Legal Intervention, Professor Zbigniew Hołda Association, the Association of Polish Judges “Iustitia” and the Association of Judges Themis.
