New month, new interns

On Monday, 1 August, another group of students started their placement programme in the HFHR legal department. As part of their internship, they will be participating in the work of Foundation legal programmes such as the Legal Intervention Programme, Strategic Litigation Programme and Observatory of the Freedom of Media in Poland.

New interns are students of law departments from Poznań, Wrocław, Cracow, Warsaw and Opole. ‘Why did I decide to take on the internship at the HFHR? My interest for human rights goes back to my secondary school, I was a finalist of the school human rights contest’, says Maciej Czaja, a graduate of Łazarski University in Warsaw.

‘Moreover, I’m a natural born activist. In my home town, Kalisz, I was involved in a number of actions regarding human rights education’, he adds.

The interns will be responsible for developing comprehensive reports on cases and making analysis of the possible legal actions in the cases reported to the Foundation. They will have the opportunity to take part in meetings and seminars with HFHR lawyers. The meetings will centre around a number of issues concerning human rights protection.

‘This year, I’m submitting my master’s thesis on the application to the European Court of Human Rights’, says Sabrina Pawlińska, a student of The University of Opole. ‘I hope that thanks to this student placement programme I can learn more about the subject.’

The internship programme will run until 31 August. For the entire duration of the programme, the students will be supervised by Foundation lawyers who will offer them a chance to take part in additional projects.
