The new HFHR’s project

In May 2011 the HFHR launched a new project titled “Europe of Human Rights”. Project’s goal is to increase the role of the HFHR in creating the European standards of human rights protection. Its also centres around acquainting the Polish public opinion with the work of international human rights organisations.Both the European Union and the Council of Europe are actively engaged in developing legislation and recommendations which affect human rights in Poland. The goal of the project is to get involved in the consultations concerning various human rights projects and provide information on the projects and outcomes of consultations.

In the period from May 2011 to May 2012 the focus of the “Europe of Human Rights” project will be as follows:

1.    The European Union’s accession to the European Convention on Human Rights.

2.    Data Retention Directive (Communication COM (2010)609).

3.    The European Arrest Warrant

4.    The right to defence in criminal proceedings.

5.    The EU anti-discrimination laws.

6.    The Interlaken process of the reform of the European Court of Human Rights.

7.    The accession of the Council of Europe to the Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence.

8.    Human rights in the Eastern Partnership.

9.    The Polish EU Presidency and human rights.

10.    The EU-Russia Forum

As part of the “Europe of Human Rights” project we observe the work of the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights, notifying of reports and studies carried out by the Agency.

The project’s team include: Dominika Bychawska-Siniarska, Zuzanna Warso and Adam Bodnar. It is supported by a network of experts cooperating with the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights.
